Canoas Centre Revitalization

CANOAS, BRAZIL / 2011

Project winner of a national competition in 2009 divided into three phases. In the Bandeira Square and in the main central area of the city the project improved the quality of pedestrian flows by creating a new public urban space and equipment for culture, living and universal accessibility. Mader also designed a new stone paving and new urban furniture set in concrete, steel and ecological autoclaved pine reforestation timber, and by the use of native vegetation it reaffirms the cultural identity of the population. The project also features LED lighting. The furniture´s range consists on concrete benches and flowerbeds, newsstands, flower stands, phone booths, bollards, bike rack, information displays, drinking fountains, recycle bin set, lighting posts and new stands for the book market-place of the city. The new popular commercial center adopted solutions as ecological concrete and green roofing. A new and qualified central area is created by strengthening the integrity and identity of the population.
