Santa Catarina Public Market Square

FLORIANÓPOLIS, BRAZIL / 2010

This project was selected at 9th São Paulo's International Architecture Biennial 2011 and obtained Honours at the 54th IFHP World Congress 2010 - Young Professional Award. 
The design was selected as the third place at the National Public Competition for the renovation of the urban environment and enhancement of the quality of public realm. The project essentially adds value to the public space. The new public area redeems this place of coexistence and favors interactivity of human relations, regaining the leisure areas and the socio-cultural experience of the citizen. The public space, universally accessible, merges with the popular commerce. The building appears from the ground, inviting the pedestrian to make use of the green rooftops for leisure. The new popular mall has a broad green coverage area because it uses vegetated gardens and green roofing. The system of rain water collection allows the reuse of water in irrigation of vegetation and on the sanitary fittings. The paved area uses concrete flooring that has high draining capacity and is slip-safe. Native tree species were adopted to attract birds and to
