CHICAGO, USA / 2016
Mader designed the flagship showroom for Sossego, North American exclusive distributor of Aristeu Pires modern Brazilian design in the U.S, located at the Design Center, in Chicago. The Design Center at The Merchandise Mart is home to four floors constituting the world’s largest and finest design center, encompassing 650,000 square feet, boasting 115 showrooms and featuring more than 2,500 product lines.
Opened in 2016, the showroom features the handcrafted, award-winning furniture of renowned Brazilian designer Aristeu Pires. “Sossego" is Portuguese and is translated as a deep, quiet tranquility. It references harmony of spirit within the self and the world; a sort of pause and placidity. Sossego’s pieces reflect the Brazilian lifestyle of warm, relaxed, and welcomed comfort. Each piece has its own charm and personality and brings timeless beauty and everyday comfort to any space.
The design of the space compliments Sossego's South American origins including walls lined with backlit panoramic images of the beautiful Serra Gaúcha mountainous region in which the Jaquitibá hardwood grows, and is the home of Aristeu Pires’ eponymous manufacturing facility.
The challenge faced in this project was to deliver an exciting user experience that resembles the brand values of simplicity and sophistication.
The design strategy was to deliver the Brazilian warmth experience through the use of hardwood panels and warm lighting contrasting with the dark colored walls and the exposed concrete structure as a background for the furniture pieces.
